I Chat, Therefore I Am...

Two chatterbots (ALICE and Jabberwacky), without short-term memories (reflex-based), have some interesting conversations. From the article, "humans tend to attribute much more intelligence to the systems than is actually there". Can the Turing test be any useful to assess intelligence, then?
